PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place, a senior living community that provides traditional assisted living and memory care, received the Berkshire Eagle’s 2017 Best of the Berkshires award after readers voted the community the best Alzheimer’s care provider in Berkshire County.
Every summer, The Berkshire Eagle readers vote for their favorite businesses. Winners of the Best of the Berkshires awards must receive the most reader nominations in a given category. For the first time this year, winners will be honored at the Best of the Berkshires Event.
“Simply saying ‘thank you’ seems an insufficient way to express the depth of gratitude we have for our families and friends from all corners who voted for us,” said Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place Executive Director Carla Mitchell. “Our team will continue striving to deserve the community’s respect for the care we provide.”
Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place offers a unique memory care program known as The Neighborhood. Designed for individuals with both early- and late-stage dementia, this program provides personalized memory care plans that incorporate therapeutic activities tailored to each resident’s interests and needs.
A cornerstone of The Neighborhood program is the community’s Namaste Care. Based on the Hindu term for “honoring the spirit within,” this therapy for residents with advanced dementia provides sensory stimulation through massage, gentle range-of-motion exercises, aromatherapy, music therapy, and soothing grooming such as haircuts, hair brushing and facial shaving — stimulation that can decrease agitation and improve a resident’s quality of life.
