As you may be aware, health care workers and high-risk populations have been prioritized to be among the first recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that it is partnering with two national pharmacy chains to offer on-site COVID-19 vaccination services for residents and staff of skilled nursing centers, assisted living communities and independent living communities. Wingate Healthcare will be working with our pharmacy provider, CVS, for our vaccination program.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is in final stages of review for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Both companies have requested emergency use authorization (EUA) from the FDA. It is possible that the EUAs could be granted as early as this week.
“We are very, very enthusiastic about being first, getting residents and staff vaccinated, we think that that’s an enormous step forward for reestablishing the consumer confidence that we’ve always had with families in the community,” states Scott Schuster, CEO.
Our team is working closely with CVS on preparations. We anticipate the vaccine will be available to our residents and staff within the next two weeks. CVS will administer the vaccine in two doses, approximately 3-4 weeks apart.
While we are excited to have the vaccine on the horizon, we continue to remain diligent in our safety, sanitation, and infection control practices. Our team is taking unprecedented efforts to maximize safety and create meaningful programs so that our residents continue to thrive. We continue to invest in state-of-the-art sanitization and safety protocols, including:
