PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place has named Mark Amuso executive director. Amuso is the former director of Crothall Healthcare and the former executive director of Sweetwood Retirement Community.
“My dad lived at Melbourne Place for three years,” Amuso said. “Once my mom passed, my dad just sat in front of a television — this place gave my dad his life back. He spent three years here, three very good years.”
“I saw the opportunity to be part of Melbourne Place and I just jumped at it. I want to provide what my father had here for other seniors.”
In 2003, Amuso was named director of community development for the city of Pittsfield, a mayoral-appointed position. As director, Amuso was charged with enhancing the viability of the community, a trait that directly translates into his new role as administrator.
Amuso’s professional experience also includes business manager of the Mount Greylock Regional School District and director of operations for Holyoke Public Schools. He holds a master’s in business administration from the University of Massachusetts and a bachelor’s in business management from Southern Vermont College.
“Melbourne is lively community,” Amuso said. “Residents interact, and there are numerous opportunities for them to socialize, play games and enjoy each other’s company — Melbourne really changes how a senior can exist as they age. Instead of being alone most of the time, residents are with other people and they’re in an elegant environment. Their needs are being taken care of.”
Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place, located on a scenic hillside at 140 Melbourne Road, provides traditional assisted living and a specialized memory care program to residents and their families.
